YOUR FIRST VISIT WITH GARRICK

New Client Corrective Bodywork Assessment

This first visit is for corrective bodywork with Garrick.

Tell us what bothers you, how it affects your movement, and what you want to feel more comfortable doing. Your first visit includes a conversation, movement check, and focused hands-on bodywork.

New corrective clients begin with a New Client Assessment. Your appointment includes an extra ten minutes for conversation and assessment, without reducing your hands-on bodywork time.

What is Corrective Bodywork?

Corrective Bodywork is focused, hands-on care for a problem area that keeps feeling tight or makes everyday movement uncomfortable. Garrick works on the muscles and connective tissue that may be contributing to your discomfort, including nearby areas when they appear connected.

How it differs from a typical massage

The session follows your concerns and movement, rather than a preset full-body routine. You are paying for focused assessment, individualized attention, and techniques adapted as your body responds. A longer session may stay with one concern or work through several connected areas. Pressure follows your feedback; stronger pressure is not the goal.

Common reasons clients come in

  • Neck and shoulders: recurring tightness, stiff turns, or discomfort when reaching.
  • Low back and hips: muscle tension, restricted hip movement, or sciatica-type discomfort.
  • Jaw and TMJ concerns: clenching-related muscle tension; jaw work may include gloved intraoral techniques when appropriate and with your consent.
  • Feet, heels, and calves: sore feet, tight calves, or plantar-fasciitis-related heel discomfort.
  • Postpartum and healed scars: abdominal, hip, and low-back tension, with gentle attention around fully healed C-section scars when suitable.
  • After surgery: surrounding muscle tension and stiffness after knee or hip replacement, adapted to your recovery and healthcare team’s restrictions.

What your first visit includes

  1. Your story and priorities. We discuss what bothers you, your history, and what you want to feel more comfortable doing.
  2. A movement check. Garrick looks at how you move to guide the work.
  3. Focused hands-on care. Your session may include myofascial release, targeted muscle work, assisted stretching, cupping, or jaw techniques, based on your needs. Gentle lymphatic techniques may be included when appropriate after discussing your health history.
  4. A useful recap. You leave with a brief summary and practical movement or self-care suggestions when helpful.

Before your appointment

Tell us about pregnancy, surgery, and relevant medical restrictions before your visit. Scar work begins only after the wound is fully healed and appropriate for massage. Bodywork supports comfort and movement and complements your medical care.
